Just like Dichotomy, Tim's previous release, DiVerb brings two takes on a set of brand new drum loops. The drums of the V1 files are recorded with multiple mics and generally have a cleaner production style. V2 loops are recorded with a single microphone mixed so that they will inspire producers in a very different way. Where does the 'verb part come in?
These loops are great for use as-is, but they shine when you add reverb. Plates, halls, infinites, shimmers...whatever the case, try adding some in and see what you get. I think you'll find sounds that get you anywhere from old school soul to Portishead.
Beyond adding reverb, I've found it's pretty fun to layer the two corresponding loop versions from this collection together. Simply place them over each other in your DAW; then, starting with the V2 file at very low volume, bring it up in the mix to taste. When it's done right, it can add a nice amount of attitude to the drums!
Tim Baltes both played the drums and mixed the audio on DiVerb. Gear used includes a vintage Slingerland drum set, with a 24” kick drum, 13” tom, and a 16” floor tom. Snare drums used include a C&C Custom Maple/Gum 14x6.25” model and a Slingerland 14x5” COB from the early 1960s. All drums were outfitted with Remo drumheads and Snareweight products for adequate dampening. All cymbals heard are Zildjian.
